Tranquillo Barnetta

Tranquillo Barnetta is probably one of the most infamous failed Newcastle United transfers of all time.

The Journal reported that the Swiss international was waiting in the Jesmond Dene Hotel for the paperwork to come through for his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.

Of course, it all fell through and Bernetta left Leverkusen in 2012 to sign for Bundesliga side Schalke 04. Now aged 30, he plays for the Philadelphia Union in the MLS.
