There will be no Christmas break for the players

Christmas for footballers can be a tricky time. There is no time off to spend with family, and it’s in the middle of a hectic period of fixtures.

For the Newcastle United lads, there won’t even be any time off on Christmas day. Head coach Steve McClaren has scheduled in a full day of training: “We’ll train as normal Christmas day,” he confessed.

“Nice and early to prepare for Everton. We need to be professional and focus. (There will be) normal preparation.

“It’s all about us and that’s what we’ve focussed on. Working hard, matching our opponents. We have players who can cause teams problems,” McClaren finished.
