Left Winger: Keith Gillespie

A great midfielder for Newcastle United, much of their success in the early 1990s can be attributed to the crosses and plays created by Lee Gillespie. Gillespie was a top midfielder for Manchester United before they turned to David Beckham to take the spot and Newcastle United decided to sign the player.

While many of the younger fans may not remember the match that was perhaps Lee’s best, some of the older Newcastle United fans will never forget it. The match where Gillespie provided two assists in the 1997 win over Barcelona in a Champions League match. We simply do not see these kinds of performances anymore from the club and if we were to face Barcelona today we’d be lucky to get a sniff fo goal.

The club right now needs more players like Gillespie. Selfless and able to create a play. The passing this season has been horrible so perhaps they should look at some old footage of Gillespie doing his thing.
