Rightback: Warren Barton

These days Warren Barton is known more for his punditry with Fox Sports than his exploits on the field, but there was a time when he was one of the best players in the Premier League. He was at one point the most expensive defender in England when he signed for the Magpies for £4 million in 1995.

Barton was renowned for his attacking prowess and his deep runs from his fullback position helped make the Newcastle attack so dangerous. He made 164 appearances over seven years with the club and even made a few appearances for the England national team.

Because of his longevity at the club and all that he brought to the club, Barton is often mentioned as one of the legends of Newcastle United and rightfully so. He helped Newcastle finish second in the league in 1997 and went on to have a fantastic career with the club.
