Forward: Andy Cole

Andy Cole is most known for his exploits with Manchester United but it was with Newcastle United where he first hit the scene. Cole signed for a then club-record of £1.75 million from Bristol City in 1993 and helped Newcastle earn promotion to the Premier League. The England striker also holds the Newcastle record for most goals in a season with 41.

He went on to make 70 appearances for the Magpies, scoring an astonishing 55 goals. In one of the worst deals in Newcastle history, even worse than selling Solano, was the decision to sell Andy Cole to Manchester United for just £7 million. Despite some injury problems and competition from the likes of Eric Cantona, Cole went on to score 121 goals in 275 appearances for the Red Devils.

Cole could have gone on to become the second all-time leading goalscorer for Newcastle behind just Alan Shearer who finished with 206. Perhaps he could have been at the top of that list had he finsihed out his career on Tyneside. Despite his relatively short stint with the club, he is still regarded as one of the best players to wear the black and white stripes.
