Right Winger: Nolberto Solano

Another player who left the club only to return a few years later. The decision to sell him to Aston Villa in 2004 was one of the worst in the history of the club and Newcastle missed out on three years of his prime.

Solano was renowned for his crossing ability and his connection with Alan Shearer and Kieron Dyer was unparalleled. The versatile Peruvian was excellent in set-piece situations as well and in 2006 was selected by FIFA as the “King of the Free Kick”.

Nolberto Solano was a Magpie through and through. Despite playing for many clubs in his career, he considered himself an “adopted Geordie”. Throughout his entire career, Solano scored 104 goals in 516 matches with 48 of those coming in a Newcastle shirt.

His biggest regret? Not winning a trophy for the fans of Newcastle United.
