Newcastle Beats Hull City for First Win Under John Carver
By Bryan Nelson
It was a beautiful sight to see. Not only has Newcastle won their first game under John Carver, but it came with a clean sheet to boot. By the start of the second half, Newcastle looked like they had control over the game, and they didn’t look back. Hull City ran a 4-4-2 today, which never came to fruition against Newcastle’s strong defense and attacking today.
Goal scoring starts in the 40th minute with Remy Cabella shooting one into the net! It was such a spectacular goal, I wish you were there to see it. Hell, I wish I was actually there to see it too. One of these days…
The first half ended with Newcastle United up 0-1, and it was quite a great start to a match that I’ll always remember.

In the 50th minute, 10 minutes into the second half, Newcastle scores again! Ameobi shoots a wonder into the net that puts the Toons up now, 0-2. There’s not a doubt in my mind now that Newcast can pull out of this one with a win.
Last goal came in the 78th minute from Yoan Gouffran! Hull City’s defense looking quite desperate couldn’t contain the player, and he puts a beauty straight into the net to get Newcastle’s final goal, and to put a little salt on Hull’s already deep wound.
Hull City’s defense was not on top of their game, and they had given the ball away numerous times that enabled Newcastle to capitalize on those chances. It was a joy to watch, because what we got to see was a Newcastle team prepared to take advantage of their opponents mistakes. In previous games played, Newcastle struggled. In fact, a game against Chelsea comes to mind, when Newcastle was dominating the pitch in the first half, and while they may have been the “better” team, ended up taking a loss against Chelsea.
This time around, Newcastle wouldn’t let that happen, and left Hull City in the dust trying to catch up the entire game. Newcastle was relentless today, and it’s the kind of football you hope to see from them in the future. Remember, any team can win on any given day. And while a lot of people would like to say that Newcastle got lucky against Hull today, they could be very right. But we’ll see what happens when Newcastle takes the fight to Stoke City next Sunday.
What The Win Means
For Newcastle: This win puts Carver in a good light…for now. If Carver can push his players to play top of the line football and continue to get wins such as the one against Hull City today, then he’s golden. But it’s important to take note that Carver can’t take this win for granted. He even said himself that he thinks Newcastle make it to 8th place this season, which while not good enough for the fans, is probably the highest we have chance of finishing this season. If Carver can make that push, hopefully he can show us a team that is ready to finally put up a fight to finish in the top five next season.
For Hull: This loss is a tough one for Hull City to swallow. To be in the relegation zone, and now have to make up for a loss against Newcastle, they’re in a tough position. Hull City has been struggling this season, and you hate to see them struggle the way they did against Newcastle. They didn’t even look strong in that match, they just looked worn and almost ready to give up. Hopefully they don’t.
Newcastle beats Hull, 0-3. Go Newcastle!
