Newcastle United cannot afford to waste time in this transfer window. A new striker is needed immediately.

The terrible shift put in by Joelinton and Yoshinori Muto when Newcastle United drew 1-1 with Rochdale in the third round of the FA Cup was the final straw for me. Steve Bruce has some quality players at his disposal in midfield and in the back, but that is not the case on the front-line.

Joelinton spends more time waving his arms around and screaming at the sky in Portuguese than he does focusing on threatening the keeper and scoring goals. Muto has great ball control and pace, but he lacks the creativity and confidence to create chances for himself.

Andy Carroll is an experienced player who has an impact in the box, but he is heavily dependent on crosses from out wide, which places a ceiling on his overall threat in front of goal. Dwight Gayle, well, we know he can score in double figures, but only if he’s playing in the Championship.

The Toon are back in the relegation mix after losing three consecutive games, and the team’s pathetic draw against a League One opponent in the FA Cup while playing with first team players smells like a crisis to me. As a result, Bruce can no longer play the role of a nice guy at the club. He must demand the arrival of a new striker this week. Yes, this week.

Seven Premier League clubs have already completed a few transfers in this window and Newcastle United need to join that list. Several strikers are available, and Nikola Kalinic, who is under contract with Atletico Madrid, but plays on loan for Roma, has been offered to the Magpies. Take that chance! If not Kalinic, then go after Everton’s Cenk Tosun or Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi. There are several avenues for Newcastle United to find a new striker.
