Newcastle United need three points vs. Everton

Saturday’s loss to West Ham in London makes next weekend’s match against Everton even more crucial for Newcastle United.

Newcastle United were enjoying a good run of form with back-to-back wins over Huddersfield Town and Burnley, but losing to West Ham set the Magpies back a bit. The Toon are still six points clear of the bottom three, but a win against the Hammers would have served as a major boost toward survival.

The Magpies will now host 10th-placed Everton at St. James’ Park this Saturday for what is a must-win game. Many of you might be thinking that this match will not make or break our season, but it truly is an important match for Rafa Benitez’s side. Let us analyze why Newcastle must take all three points against Everton this weekend.

Difficult Schedule after Everton

Everton have had their ups and downs this season, but they boast more talent in almost every position. Despite playing at home, pundits are right to say that Newcastle will be the underdogs in this match. That label has never stopped Newcastle from winning big games in the past and they must do whatever they can to win on Saturday. A key reason why the Magpies need a win is because points will be hard to come by over the next few weeks.

After facing Everton, Newcastle will go up against four difficult opponents in Bournemouth (A), Arsenal (A), Crystal Palace (H) and Leicester City (A). All  four of those teams are capable of defeating the Magpies and the key problem is that three of those four matches will be played on the road.

Securing Survival Early

The ultimate goal is to avoid relegation, but if survival can be achieved this month, then Newcastle can focus on keeping Benitez as their manager and working out a deal with West Brom to keep Salomon Rondon permanently. Huddersfield Town and Fulham have too much ground to make up, but Cardiff City are only two wins away from causing problems for Newcastle. A win against Everton would be significant for the Magpies, especially if Cardiff City lose their next match.
