Newcastle United take on Chelsea at St. James’ Park on Saturday for the first time this season. It is a fixture that has normally yielded a good result, as Alan Pardew and the Magpies became a bogey side for Jose Mourinho’s men.

However, with the Tynesiders in a free-fall, and the Blues’ form on the way up, a Newcastle win looks unlikely to be on the cards. Instead, many members of the Toon Army are hoping for a gritty, hardworking performance that doesn’t end with a massive defeat.

Toon goalkeeper Tim Krul has spoken about how the side has to respond to their humbling League Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, saying: “Everybody has to look at themselves in the mirror and ask if they gave everything. If not, they have to start straight away, because what we are doing at the moment is really not good enough.”

With a potential injury crisis looming for Newcastle, everyone around the ground knows that Saturday will be a tough fixture as Chelsea will look to exploit tired minds and tired legs to get their title defence up and running.
